Brand new music is something that we get most excited about at Dark Side. We spend most of our time here trying to find the best in up and coming music and in this feature we show off one of our favourite new finds.
Who are you?
I am John James Davies, or as the adoring public refers to, L.A. PEACH.
When did you start performing music, and when did you start performing as L.A. Peach?
What a great question! From a young age I was performing, but I didn’t know how to play and I was way too excitable and unfocused to learn anything. I remember singing in a choir at school doing Angels by Robbie Williams, and my teacher told me I was terrible. First gigs in actual bands started at around 15/16 I’m pretty sure.
First performance as L.A. PEACH was May 19th according to my records, but that could be wrong. I’d been writing that material for a few months prior.
Who were your first influences as an artist?
My very first influences as an artist were probably Simon & Garfunkel, Slipknot, Ash and Westlife. In no particular order. First song I learnt on guitar was Something In The Way, and it blew my mind that it was just 2 chords. I really loved Nirvana but I never felt like I could make loud/aggressive music because I didn’t have much to be angry about. Then when I was 6 I read 1984, and I’ve been writing protest songs ever since.
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Bobby Caldwell and Steely Dan!!! All the time. The suns out and I just wanna listen to Peg until I actually die. And every time the chorus in Open Your Eyes drops I want to throw myself into a lake - hot damn it’s a corker!
Describe your sound in three words
rock a billy
Can you think of one thing that makes you different to any other?
I’m infinitely funnier
For those who have never listened to you, what song should they listen to first and why?
I Can Remember Where You Are, it’s hot and it’s ready for you.
What does the future hold for L.A. Peach?
Tour with Lacuna Common in July. My new EP ‘Come On Over And Test Me’ is out on August 9th on Sad Club Records. And then a headline show at Shacklewell Arms on August 10th. And then, lots of writing and probably loads more shows.
I promise you this though, I will not stop until I tour with Incubus.
