Brand new music is something that we get most excited about at Dark Side. We spend most of our time here trying to find the best in up and coming music and in this feature we show off one of our favourite new finds.
Who are you?
We are James, Dave, Finlay, Lewis and Calum, and together we are Walt Disco, an artpop band from Glasgow, Scotland.
How did the formation of the band come around?
We all met on the first day of university in our student halls around September 2016 and very drunkenly decided to start a band. Things didn't really start getting serious until a year or so after though! And now most of us have dropped out, so I guess it's worked out okay.
Who were you first influences as a band?
We're all very heavily influenced by 80s Scottish Post-punk artists such as The Associates, Simple Minds, The Blue Nile, Orange Juice and Josef K.
What music are you listening to at the moment?
We've been listening to a mix of older artists such as Sparks, Cocteau Twins and Lizzie Mercier Descloux along with some newer acts that we love (and are fortunate enough to be friends with some of) such as Sistertalk, Ugly and Working Men's Club.
Describe your sound in three words
Young, Hard and Handsome!
Can you think of one thing that makes your band different to any other?
Younger, harder and handsomer than any other.
For those who have never listened to you, what song should they listen to first and why?
Out of our current material online, "My Pop Sensibilities" is most representative of our sound as a whole.
What does the future hold for Walt Disco?
We're heading out on tour with Sports Team over March which we can't wait for. Apart from that just plenty of shows and festivals over the summer, and writing and releasing more music! There's no plan set in stone just yet, so we really don't know whats around the corner!
