Finding a front man/woman in a band that truly keeps your attention and makes you go wow is a rare find but Sports Team and Walt Disco have two of the strongest frontmen currently in the indie-music scene and their performance on stage only adds to their bands incredible sounds. This was the third time we had seen Sports Team on their headline tour, and the second time we saw Walt Disco supporting so we knew we had to get down early.
Walt Disco's frontman is theatrical, energetic and has an almost eccentric style which represents his vocals almost perfectly. The theatrical, almost Bowie-esque vocals capture the audiences attention and are definitely memorable for any new listeners. The jangly guitar riffs and synths make their sound incredibly distinctive and they are one of the most exciting emerging bands right now. Our picks from their set were their latest single 'My Pop Sensibilities' and the currently unreleased 'Cut Your Hair'.
It was then time for the highly anticipated Sports Team who come onto the singalong classic that is Robbie Williams' 'Let Me Entertain You'. The crowd are already singing and dancing by the time the band come onto the stage and their energy does not drop for even a second. The set starts with 'Camel Crew'. The bands touring schedule has really pushed them to their limits and early on in the set you could really tell that frontman Alex Rice was struggling with his voice which seemed worn down from many consecutive days of playing shows and their big London date and after party only being 2 days prior to this.
His voice did eventually warm up, but his infectious stage presence and crowd interactions kept us all focused on the frontman throughout the show. Their set contained songs from both their EPs and the crowds response to the old and new songs was as impressive and you can tell Sports Team are certainly gaining popularity continuously and are set for big things. Their set came to a close with 'Kutcher' and 'Stanton', both creating pits in the still lively audience. At the end of the set, Robbie Williams' 'Angels' came over the speakers bringing Sports Team's Robbie and Alex Rice back to stage singing along with the crowd.
Not only do Sports Team manage to produce absolute banger after absolute banger, but they also bring a truly unbeatable stage presence and performance to their live performances. They are not only one of the most exciting bands of 2019, but could be one of the most exciting bands for years to come.
